Macon County Commission since 1973 has sponsored the Macon County Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). CNS use a Programming for Impact (PFI) approach for designing volunteer assignments to ensure the priority community needs are addressed while the lives of the volunteers are enriched.  This approach allows measurement of the accomplishments and impact of volunteer efforts. Programming for Impact consists of the following five elements:  Community need, service activity, inputs, accomplishments and impact.

The Macon County Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) provide opportunities for people 55 and over to make a difference in their community through volunteer service. RSVP volunteers contribute anywhere from a few to over forty hours a week, serving through schools, nutrition centers, police department (Tele-check operators), nursing homes, churches and other nonprofit and public organizations to help meet critical community needs. RSVP offers maximum flexibility and choice to its volunteers. RSVP matches the personal interests and skills of older Americans with opportunities to help solve community problems and offers supplemental insurance while on duty and on-the-job training from the agency or organization where volunteers are placed. The program has no restriction based upon experience, education, disability, race, income, religion or employment.  Volunteers are the most valuable resource of RSVP; they are appreciated daily, and formally recognized for their dedication.
